Preventative Dentistry

We are the premier provider of preventive dental services South of the River and across the Perth Metro area.

Prevention is the cornerstone of oral health

In the realm of dental care, an investment in prevention is a safeguard for both your oral well-being and your financial health. At Murdoch Dental & Implant Centre, we understand the strain many individuals and families face during the current economic challenges. Rather than shying away from dental visits, embrace them as proactive measures that not only ward off toothaches but also spare you from the financial pains that neglecting oral health can inflict.

Dental Examination

Our amiable team at Murdoch Dental & Implant Centre conducts thorough dental examinations, scrutinizing your teeth for cavities and assessing your gums for any signs of gum disease. The insidious plaque, a bacterial film, is diligently addressed to prevent its hardening into calculus, a predicament that demands specialized instruments for removal.

Dental X-rays

Dental radiographs, or x-rays, play a pivotal role in our diagnostic approach, unveiling hidden oral issues invisible to the naked eye. These images allow us to detect infections or abnormalities, providing a comprehensive overview of your oral health. With these insights, potential diseases that might otherwise go unnoticed are brought to light.

Scale and Clean

While regular brushing and flossing contribute to plaque removal, our scale and clean procedures are essential for tackling calcified plaque, a result of the amalgamation of bacteria, calcium, and phosphate in your saliva. Ordinary toothbrushes fall short when plaque hardens, making professional intervention necessary.

Pit and Fissure Sealants

Our commitment to safeguarding your oral health extends to protecting the deep grooves of your molars from bacterial intrusion. Pit and fissure sealants act as an additional barrier, ensuring the longevity of your oral well-being. Wisdom teeth assessments are also a part of this meticulous process.

Fluoride Treatments

Recognizing fluoride as a potent ally in the battle against tooth decay, we offer fluoride treatments. This mineral, naturally present in various foods and water supplies, fortifies your teeth against decay, ensuring a robust defense mechanism.

Oral Cancer Screening

At Murdoch Dental & Implant Centre, we prioritize your overall health. Oral cancer screenings are integral to our preventative approach, acknowledging the severity of this often-overlooked threat. Early detection is key, and our screenings play a crucial role in saving lives.

Mouthguards

For our sports enthusiasts, we emphasize the importance of mouthguards. In the blink of an eye, sports-related incidents can damage your teeth and gums, necessitating extensive treatments. Our customized mouthguards act as your protective shield during athletic pursuits.

Occlusal Splint

Nighttime teeth grinding can pose significant challenges. Our Occlusal Splints, meticulously crafted to fit the upper or lower arches of your teeth, serve as a preventive measure, minimizing the impact of grinding on your teeth. Also known as bite splints or night guards, these removable dental appliances ensure a serene night’s rest.

The following checklist outlines situations when it would be beneficial to consider preventative dental services:

  • Routine Check-ups: Schedule regular dental check-ups at least twice a year for comprehensive assessments.
  • Toothache or Discomfort: If you experience toothache or discomfort, seek preventive care to address the issue before it escalates.
  • Gum Sensitivity or Bleeding: Persistent gum sensitivity or bleeding may indicate gum disease, warranting preventative measures.
  • Plaque Build-up: If you notice plaque build-up on your teeth, consider professional cleaning to prevent calculus formation.
  • Receding Gums: Receding gums could be a sign of periodontal issues; preventative measures can help maintain gum health.
  • Changes in Bite or Jaw Pain: Changes in your bite or jaw pain might signal teeth grinding; an occlusal splint can be preventive.
  • Sports Participation: Engaging in sports? Consider a custom mouthguard to protect your teeth and gums from potential injuries.
  • Wisdom Teeth Development: Regular assessments are essential for monitoring the development of wisdom teeth and taking preventive actions.
  • History of Tooth Decay: If you have a history of tooth decay, regular fluoride treatments can prevent future decay.
  • Tobacco or Alcohol Use: Regular oral cancer screenings are crucial, especially if you use tobacco or consume alcohol.
  • Teeth Grinding (Bruxism): If you grind your teeth, discuss the option of an occlusal splint with your dentist for preventive care.
  • Family History of Dental Issues: A family history of dental problems may necessitate proactive preventative measures.
  • Pregnancy: Pregnancy can affect oral health; consider preventative services to address any potential issues.
  • Medical Conditions Impacting Oral Health: Certain medical conditions may impact oral health; preventive measures become crucial in such cases.
  • Changes in Oral Hygiene Habits: If there are changes in your oral hygiene habits, such as difficulty in brushing or flossing, preventative care becomes essential.

Regular communication with your dentist can help tailor a preventative dental plan based on your specific needs and circumstances.

I had the best experience with Murdoch Dental, all the staff were brilliant, professional and kind. I contacted them several times during the healing process of my wisdom tooth extraction, and they went above and beyond each time to alleviate any worries I had. Cannot fault a single aspect of this experience and I recommend them for anyone looking to get dental work completed in the future. Thank you, Murdoch Dental.

Very good experience my first time there as there was a little bit of pain while doing the removal of my tooth because of an infection but the dentist did a good job. Her assistant was also very supportive and very helpful. Thank you. 🥰💗

Great dentists, really friendly staff, not wildly expensive. They’ve fixed a few issues for me after a lot of years of neglecting my teeth, and they’ve made it far less traumatic than I was worried it was going to be. Definitely recommend.
